SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State lacrosse program released its 2025 schedule on Thursday, featuring eight home games and eight road contests, as well as an exhibition to be played on Aztec Field. Joining the Big 12 for the league’s inaugural lacrosse season, the Aztecs will face a variety of both familiar foes and new matchups.
Prior to the start of the regular season, San Diego State will host Pomona Pitzer on Friday, Jan. 31 in an exhibition game at 4 p.m. PST.
The Aztecs officially kick off the 2025 slate with four straight road matchups. Beginning with a trip to the Midwest, SDSU opens its season against Detroit Mercy on Friday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. PST. This will be the fourth meeting between the two programs, the first since 2017 when the Aztecs defeated the Titans 18-7. SDSU currently leads the series 2-1. The team will then head up the road to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan on Feb. 9 at 9 a.m. PST. It will be the first-ever matchup between the Aztecs and the Eagles.
Spending the following weekend in South Carolina, SDSU is set for a Valentine’s Day matchup against Winthrop at 1 p.m. The last meeting between the programs was in 2015, which the Aztecs won 17-7 to improve to 2-0 over the Eagles. Heading from Rock Hill to Spartansburg, the team will play Wofford on Sunday at 9 a.m. SDSU won their only matchup against the Terriers 23-4 in 2018.
The home opener will be played on Sunday, Feb. 23 at noon where the Aztecs will look to get their first series win against Denver. The Pioneers are coming off their fourth consecutive Big East Championship that earned them an automatic NCAA Tournament bid. The Aztecs will then host USC on March 1 at 1 p.m. The Trojans currently own a three-game win streak over the Aztecs. SDSU earned its first and most recent win in 2022 in a 14-13 overtime victory.
Next up, the team will take a quick trip to Eugene on March 6 to take on the Oregon Ducks at noon. The Aztecs lead the all-time series 8-3 and own a five-game win streak, including a 13-12 win in 2024.
After their return from the Pacific Northwest, the Aztecs will be back on The Mesa for a four-game home stand that kicks off on Monday, March 10 at 3 p.m. against East Carolina. It will be the first meeting between the two programs. The Aztecs will then face Ohio State on March 15 at noon before getting a Big 12 preview against UC Davis in a non-conference matchup on March 22 at 6 p.m. SDSU and UC Davis have met every season since the first year of the program in 2012, and the Aggies currently lead the series 11-6. The Aztecs earned their last win in 2022, beating the Aggies 21-17.
SDSU will open up its conference schedule at home against Colorado on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m. The Aztecs will have a chance to clinch their first win over the Buffaloes.
The team hits the road again on April 2, heading to The Sunshine State to play its last non-conference game against Stetson before jumping back into Big 12 play in a matchup against Florida on April 5. SDSU and Stetson met once in 2013, which resulted in an 18-1 Aztec victory. Florida leads SDSU 2-0 with matchups in 2024 and 2015. The Gators finished the 2024 season ranked 10th in the nation, making it to the NCAA Tournament semifinals.
The team returns to Aztec Field on Saturday, April 12 to host Cincinnati at 1 p.m. The series is currently tied 1-1 with the Bearcats owning the most recent win in 2019. The Aztecs won the first matchup 14-9 in 2012 on their home field. The two programs were scheduled to meet again in 2020, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19.
In its final road game of the season, SDSU will head to Tempe to take on Arizona State on April 19 at noon. The Sun Devils lead the all-time series 5-3.
SDSU wraps up the regular season at home on April 26 at noon in its official Big 12 matchup against UC Davis, following the first non-conference meeting.
The inaugural Big 12 Women’s Lacrosse Championship will take place in Boulder, Colo. from April 30-May 3.
