Aztecs Play at Cal State Bakersfield Friday Night

The Aztecs continue their two-game road swing when they play at Cal State Bakersfield Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. With a win, SDSU will be 6-0 for the first time since the 1988-89 season.

SAN DIEGO – The Aztecs continue their two-game road swing when they play at Cal State Bakersfield Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

 

Aztec Tidbits

  • SDSU is 5-0 and coming off a 78-66 win at California Baptist Wednesday.
  • The Aztecs are 5-0 for the first time since the 1992-93 season. With a win Friday, SDSU will be 6-0 for the first time since the 1988-89 season when the Aztecs started 14-0.
  • As of Thursday morning, SDSU is one of 53 undefeated schools and one of 18 undefeated mid-major programs.
  • The Aztecs are one of just two Mountain West teams to be undefeated (Boise State).
  • SDSU leads the Mountain West in free throws made (18.0) and attempted (23.2) per game and in free throw percentage (77.6%). SDSU set a school record for free throw percentage last year (75.6%).
  • SDSU is averaging just 13.2 turnovers per game, 28th in the nation. They’ve had less turnovers than their opponent in every game and are averaging 8.0 less turnovers than their opposition per game.
  • The Aztecs have shown off their depth with 11 Aztecs averaging at least 10 minutes per game and 10 of them have had a game with double-digit points.
  • 44.1% of the SDSU’s scoring has come from their bench (32.8 of 74.4 points). The Aztecs have had at least 30 points come from their bench in four of their five games.
  • The Aztecs have trailed for just 34:18 minutes (16.7%) this season and 23:23 of that came in the San Francisco game where SDSU ended up winning by double-digits.
  • SDSU is averaging 74.4 points per game. This is the first time since the 1991-92 season that the Aztecs have scored more than 70 points in four of their first five games.
  • Since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, the Aztecs are 26-4 (.867) when they score 70 or more points and 43-9 (.827) when they score 60 or more.
  • Four Aztecs are shooting 50% or better from the field: Erin Houpt, Adryana Quezada, Cali Clark and Veronica Sheffey.

  • Adryana Quezada was on the preseason All-Mountain West team. She averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game last year and became the first Aztec in the Mountain West era (25 years) to shoot at least 50% from the field and 80% from the line.
  • Both Quezada and Villalobos have over 1,000 career points and 600 career rebounds. Quezada has scored 1,374 points and collected 676 rebounds (14.2 and 7.0 per game). Villalobos has 1,042 points and 672 rebounds.

 

Player Notes

  • Adryana Quezada is one of five players in the nation to have over 1,300 points and 600 rebounds while shooting at least 50% from the field and 70% from the line.
  • Quezada is shooting 62.5% from the field this season, which is third in the Mountain West and 34th in the nation.
  • Quezada has scored in double-digits in 69 of her 97 career games and in 31 of her 40 as an Aztec.
  • Kim Villalobos is one of eight players in the nation with at least 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 175 assists, 150 steals and 75 blocks in her career.
  • Villalobos is in the top ten in school history in career games, rebounds and blocks.
  • Last year Villalobos was the only player in the Mountain West to finish in the top 10 in rebounds, steals and blocks.
  • Last year Villalobos became only the second Aztec in the Mountain West era to have at least 300 points, 200 rebounds, 75 assists and 50 steals in a season.
  • Erin Houpt is the only player in the nation to shoot at least 40% from three and 90% from the line in her career.
  • Houpt is 92.4% (145-157) from the line in her career, the second best in the nation (minimum 100 made free throws).
  • Houpt’s 42.2% career three-point percentage is seventh in the nation among qualified players. She is 6-for-7 from three this season.
  • Cali Clark is eighth in the nation among active players in rebounds per minute (minimum 75 games).
  • Clark was second in the nation last year in rebounds per minute, trailing only All-American Cameron Brink.
  • Clark had six games with 10 or more rebounds in 109 games at Colorado State and has done it three times in five games with the Aztecs.
  • Clark is second in the Mountain West and 16th in the nation with 12 blocks.
  • Nat Martinez has averaged 11.0 points per game over the last two games. She had a career-high five assists at California Baptist Wednesday.
  • Meghan Fiso tied her career-high with five rebounds at California Baptist Wednesday.
  • Naomi Panganiban became the first true freshman to start the season opener for SDSU since 2018 (Sophia Ramos and Mallory Adams).
