SAN DIEGO – San Diego State baseball head coach Shaun Cole has revealed the team’s eagerly awaited 2025 schedule, featuring a 56-game docket with 29 home dates at Tony Gwynn Stadium. In addition to the 10th annual Tony Gwynn Legacy, the Aztecs will also compete at the season-opening MLB Desert Invitational in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Of the 22 different opponents on its 2025 slate, SDSU will play 25 games against 13 teams that posted winning records last season, including three against defending Mountain West tournament champion Fresno State and two apiece vs. local adversaries San Diego and UC San Diego.
Additionally, the Aztecs’ attractive schedule includes eight non-conference foes that finished among the top 100 in the final NCAA RPI last year in UC Santa Barbara (13), USD (21), Nebraska (29), Northeastern (39), USC (76), Utah (83), Grand Canyon (93) and CSUN (94).
San Diego State will play two series (home-away) against three Mountain West opponents in San José State, UNLV and Washington State while facing Air Force (away), Fresno State (home), New Mexico (home) and Nevada (away) just once on conference weekends. WSU has joined the MW as an affiliate baseball member for the 2025 and 2026 campaigns.
Information on season and single-game tickets, as well as gameday promotions and broadcast schedule will be available at a later date.
The Aztecs open their season at the prestigious MLB Desert Invitational where they will square off against Seton Hall, Grand Canyon and Nebraska on successive days, Feb. 14-16, at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale Arizona, the spring training home of the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Last season, the Huskers claimed their first Big Ten tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Stillwater Regional. SDSU owns an 8-4 edge in 12 previous meetings vs. Nebraska, including a 4-2 triumph in its opener of the 2020 Tony Gwynn Legacy. The Pirates also paid a visit to “America’s Finest City” for the same event in 2018 when the Aztecs were doubled up by a 10-5 count to slip to 3-2 in the all-time series. Meanwhile, San Diego State is 13-8 against the Lopes after splitting two home games in 2022, rebounding with a 2-1 victory on the heels of a 7-2 defeat.
After a quick trip over to La Jolla for a midweek clash at UC San Diego on Feb. 18, the Scarlet and Black commences its home slate by co-hosting the 10th edition of the Tony Gwynn Legacy, Feb. 20-23. The Aztecs will face four schools in this year’s installment, battling Seattle, UC Santa Barbara, Utah and Pepperdine, respectively.
The Utes will be making their second straight appearance in the Tony Gwynn Legacy and fourth in the last seven years, including an 11-5 triumph over the Aztecs in 2024, while the other three programs have received their inaugural invitations to the event. SDSU has won all four previous meetings against the Redhawks, including a three-game sweep on The Mesa in 2019, while the Aztecs also captured all three encounters with the Gauchos to open the 2018 campaign at Tony Gwynn Stadium. In addition, San Diego State and Pepperdine will be renewing acquaintances for the first time since 2006 when the Scarlet and Black took two of three games at home.
After another crosstown clash with USD at Tony Gwynn Stadium on Feb. 25, the Aztecs will head north for a three-game series vs. Saint Mary’s, Feb. 28-March 2, in Moraga, California. SDSU has not faced the Gaels since the final weekend of the 2015 regular season when it dropped two of three home encounters before regrouping eight days later to capture the Mountain West tournament championship.
Following its Bay Area excursion, the Aztecs will make the short drive up to Orange County for the first of two meetings with Cal State Fullerton on March 4, before welcoming Northeastern to “America’s Finest City” for a four-game series, March 6-9. The weekend set marks SDSU’s first-ever engagement with the Huskies, members of the Colonial Athletic Association who finished with a 38-17 record in 2024.
The Aztecs continue their longest homestand the ensuing weekend, March 14-16, when they entertain San José State in a three-game series to open conference play. The Scarlet and Black will be looking to avenge a sweep in their lone set against the Spartans last season when the two squads squared off at Santa Clara University due to a facility conflict.
SDSU will make another quick trip up the freeway to Riverside on March 18 for the first of two meetings vs. California Baptist, another team whom the Aztecs have not faced since the 2019 campaign. Three days later, San Diego State will make its first-ever excursion to the Palouse region for a three-game series against the WSU Cougars, March 21-23, in Pullman, Washington.
The Aztecs will close out the month with four home games, starting on March 25 with the first of two midweek games against UC Riverside before battling UNLV in a conference series, March 28-30. SDSU will be looking to turn the tables on the Rebels after dropping two of three encounters at Tony Gwynn Stadium in the lone meeting between the two squads last year.
As the calendar flips pages, the Aztecs will travel to the City of Angels to face USC in another midweek clash on April 1 before jetting off to the Front Range of the Rockies for a MW series against Air Force, April 4-6. Due to snowy conditions, SDSU’s road set vs. the Falcons last year was moved from the Academy to Pueblo, Colorado.
Rematches with California Baptist (April 8) and UC San Diego (April 15) sandwiched around a conference series vs. Fresno State (April 11-13) await the Aztecs at home before they embark on a return trip to the Bay Area to battle San Jose State (April 17-19) prior to the Easter holiday.
Likewise, SDSU will lock horns with a pair of repeat opponents to open the following week, driving down Interstate 8 to engage USD at Fowler Park (April 21) before playing host to Cal State Fullerton on The Mesa the very next evening (April 22).
The Aztecs will make their first visit to Sin City since 2022 with a three-game MW series at UNLV (April 25-27) before wrapping up the month with a rematch against the UCR Highlanders in Riverside (April 29).
As the final month of the regular season unfolds, San Diego State will engage conference opponents for three consecutive weekends. The Aztecs will play host to New Mexico (May 2-4) and Washington State (May 15-17) sandwiched around a road trip to Nevada (May 9-11). During that stretch, the Scarlet and Black will also square off against CSUN (May 6) in the team’s final non-conference home game of the year.
