SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 with a 62-51 win over Idaho State (1-2) Monday evening.
“We played a little sped up at times,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “But made some plays down the stretch.”
The Aztecs led for nearly the entire game but couldn’t put away the Bengals until the fourth quarter when they held Idaho State without a field goal for a five-minutes stretch.
Adryana Quezada led the Aztecs with 13 points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter. Meghan Fiso added 11 points and made three three-pointers.
The Bengals stayed close by creating extra opportunities with offensive rebounds. They held a 24-12 advantage on the glass in the first half and outrebounded SDSU 10-2 in offensive boards.
SDSU led by two entering the final quarter but held the Bengals to 24% shooting while shooting 58% themselves. 15 of SDSU’s 18 fourth quarter points came from their post players.
STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs were outrebounded 19-5 on the offensive glass which led to Idaho State attempting 16 more field goals than SDSU.
THE NOTE
This is the first time the Aztecs have started the season 3-0 since 2017-18.
