LAS VEGAS – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (4-4-2, 1-0-0) opened up conference play with a 1-0 win at UNLV (3-6-0, 0-1-0) Thursday evening. Austin Brummett scored the game-winning goal in 73rd minute and the Aztecs held the Rebels to just one shot on goal.

The Aztecs, who are playing in the WAC as an affiliate member after 19 years in the Pac-12, started off their conference slate with their second shutout of the year.

SDSU’s best opportunity before their game-winning goal came in the 32nd minute when Rommee Jaridly had a look from the right wing that the UNLV goalkeeper made a quick twitch save on.

The Aztecs outshot the Rebels 6-2 in the first half and held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. SDSU didn’t allow a shot on goal in the entire second half.

Brummett’s game-winner came in the 73rd minute. Terence Okoeguale dribbled into the box and attracted a crowd of Rebel defenders who poked the ball away to Brummett who collected it and scored inside the far post from the left wing. Brummett leads the team with five goals.

Aztec goalkeeper Djibril Doumbia picked up his first shutout as an Aztec.
