LAS VEGAS – San Diego State men’s tennis recorded three wins on Wednesday at the Mountain West Fall Qualifier in Las Vegas, advancing one doubles pair in the main draw.
Mathieu Josserand and Alexander Mandma are moving on to the doubles quarterfinals after winning a nail-biter in the round of 16. The duo faced off against Avery Tallakson/Dario Ciobotaru of New Mexico, earning a tough 8-7 (7-5) victory. They will be back in action on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. PT.
Two Aztecs recorded wins in the singles round of 32 to advance in the bracket. Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice defeated Nevada’s Rayen Hermassi 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), but was bested 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 1-6 in the following round by New Mexico’s Nicolas Recoura.
Marc Kleber also got a win under his belt, taking down Paul Theate of Nevada in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. The freshman ultimately fell 2-6, 5-7 to New Mexico’s Daniil Kakhniuk in the round of 16.
The remaining Aztecs will have the opportunity to compete in consolation matches beginning at noon.
