SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State Athletics unveiled plans to build a state-of-the-art performance center at The Farms Golf Club in nearby Rancho Santa Fe thanks to an anonymous $1.5 million pledge. Two golf simulators will also be housed on the SDSU campus, allowing the Aztec men’s and women’s golf teams the resources necessary to continue to compete on the national level.

The performance center will be located at The Farms Golf Club, the home of San Diego State women’s golf, and will feature indoor hitting bays, team rooms, locker rooms for both men’s and women’s teams, a hospitality station, first-class accommodations and more. An exclusive, year-round, private club dedicated exclusively to golf, The Farms Golf Club is a championship-level course’s challenging design attracts top tournaments and golf legends alike, hosting prestigious events like the Trans-Mississippi Four-Ball Championship, USGA Amateur qualifiers, SCGA championships, NCAA regionals and collegiate invitationals. The course has been named "One of the top 50 clubs in the US with the best players" by Golf Digest and proud members include champion golfers such as Xander Schauffele, Phil Mickelson, Annika Sorenstam, John Schroeder and Liselotte Neumann.

“We are excited for this partnership with The Farms Golf Club,” San Diego State men’s golf head coach Ryan Donovan said. “This is an opportunity to continue to build a national championship team as we develop and graduate our student athletes. This is made possible with the support of our university, donors, and alumni. Our university has elevated and expanded to the Pac-12 Conference and the time is now!”

The San Diego State men’s golf team has won three consecutive Mountain West championships and six overall in the 25-year history of the league. SDSU is joining the Pac-12 Conference for most sports beginning in the 2026-27 season.

“This new practice facility will be a game changer for our program, allowing us to compete at the highest level in an ever-evolving landscape,” San Diego State women’s golf head coach Lauren Dobashi said. “Having a dedicated home not only enhances the training experience for our current student-athletes but also strengthens our recruiting efforts. This facility embodies our commitment to excellence and provides our athletes with the resources they need to thrive both on and off the course. We are incredibly thankful to our donors, the unwavering support of our school, and the athletics department, whose collective efforts have made this vision a reality.”

The Aztec women’s golf team has two Mountain West championships.

“I am excited about this collaboration with The Farms Golf Club to provide this amazing playing and practice experience for the SDSU golf teams,” San Diego State Director of Athletics John David Wicker said. “This dedicated facility is what we needed to provide our teams the opportunity to compete for national titles. I am grateful for the generous support, especially our lead gift, that is going to make this happen. We still have some fundraising to do, and I know the SDSU community will get behind this project and help us get to the finish line.”

“The new practice area, performance center, and SDSU team room will provide the men and women’s golf teams with state-of-the-art facilities to help them compete for conference and national championships," The Farms Golf Club president Andy Jones said. "The timing to officially partner with the SDSU men’s and women’s golf teams is timed perfectly with our golf course and practice facility upgrades that are scheduled to commence in 2025."

Designed by Foresight Sports, the global leader in the development of golf performance, entertainment, and game enhancement solutions, the golf simulators use a combination of infrared object tracking and high-speed, high-resolution camera-based technology to precisely measure every aspect of club head and ball launch performance. By capturing thousands of images per second, building a virtual 3D model, and then analyzing a multitude of data components, the golf simulators create the most accurate and complete picture of the ball and club head performance, delivering results in nearly real-time.

An anonymous donor has pledged $1.5 million, and the project now has $2.1 million of commitments to date. San Diego State athletics has set out to fundraise $3 million to bring this ambitious project to life and is looking to raise the other $900,000.
