SAN DIEGO – San Diego State University is excited to announce that it will host the annual USA Track and Field (USATF) San Diego-Imperial Association Summer Nights Track and Field All-Comers and Red-Black Intrasquad Meet once again this year. The event will take place Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024 at the Choc Sportsman Oval on the Aztrack Sports Deck.

The meet will kick off at 10 a.m. with field events including the pole vault, discus throw, shot put, triple jump, and high jump. Running events will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s and women’s 4x200 meters relays, following a “rolling schedule.”

“San Diego State’s women’s track and field kicks off its season with the annual Red-Black Meet,” said Head Coach Shelia Burrell. “We want to continue our efforts to provide opportunities for the local track and field community, alumni, families, and friends to compete on our campus and see our team and staff. Participants will be running, jumping, and throwing side-by-side with our Aztecs. In 2024, San Diego State placed second at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships and second at the Outdoor Championships. With hard work, combined with our strong incoming class, we are looking to win both titles in 2024.”

USATF San Diego-Imperial Association President, Paul Greer, added, “The Red-Black Meet will be the first of 10 Summer Nights Track and Field Series meets offered by the Association. Summer Nights meets are sponsored through local institutions like San Diego State and provide opportunities for all members of the community, ages 2 to 92, to participate in track and field.”

The meet is open to athletes of all ages, including youth, high school, collegiate, unattached, professionals, masters, and paralympians. The competition will feature Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) with wind readings for sprints and horizontal jumps. Throwers, especially masters, must bring their own implements.

It also serves as a San Diego State intra-squad competition. The Aztecs are split into red and black teams who compete against each other in a dual-meet fashion. Competition routinely goes down to the wire and is often decided by the 4x400 meter relay at the end of the meet.

For the 13th year, the meet will be nationally sanctioned. Youth, high school, junior college, university (including San Diego State students), alumni, and masters competitors of all ages can participate on an unattached basis, regardless of affiliation or ability. A record of over 500 athletes competed at the meet in 2023.

All competitors must register and pay online by midnight, Thursday, December 5th HERE. The online entry fee is $15 for unlimited events. There will be no day-of-meet registration available due to the size, complexity, and quality of the meet.

Spectator admission is free. Car and van parking is available in Parking Structure (PS) 7, located directly underneath the track. Various parking options are available at SDSU:
