SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (8-4-2, 5-0-0) knocked off San Jose State (3-6-6, 2-2-2) 1-0 on the SDSU Sports Deck Sunday afternoon to extend their win streak to five matches in a row.
Robbie Matei scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute, heading in an Austin Brummett corner kick.
“We performed really well in the second half,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. "Our team’s trademark is resiliency. We just kept going and found a way to break through.”
The Aztecs outshot the Spartans 15-7 and held them to just one shot in the first half.
Matei’s game-winning goal was his team-high sixth overall and fourth game-winner.
Just a minute after the Aztecs took the lead, the Spartans’ Gilberto Rivera picked up his second yellow card, forcing SJSU to play a man down for the final 15 minutes.

The Aztecs held the advantage in shots (15-7), shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (6-3).
THE NOTE
This is the first time in program history that the Aztecs have won five straight conference matches in a row.
