SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State men’s golf team resumes action at the prestigious Jackson T. Stephens Cup, Oct. 21-23, at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club in Oklahoma City. The Aztecs are one of just six teams competing in the invitational event that will air live on the Golf Channel.
SDSU will play 36 holes on Monday, and 18 on Tuesday before match play will settle the competition on Wednesday on the par-70, 6,954-yard course.
Also in the field with San Diego State and host Arkansas are No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 14 Oklahoma State, No. 20 SMU and No. 26 Florida State. In addition to the schools competing for the Jackson T. Stephens Cup team titles, six individual collegiate leading players from U.S Military Service Academies and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will also compete in the stroke play portion of the tournament.
The Aztecs are slated to play their first two rounds with Arkansas and Florida State on Monday, starting out from the 10th hole at 8:10 a.m. CT (6:10 a.m. PT) and beginning their second round from the 10th hole at 12:50 p.m. CT (10:50 a.m. PT). Tuesday’s tee times will be based on Monday’s scoring.
Golf Channel’s coverage will run from 4-7 p.m. CT (2-5 p.m. PT) on Monday, 3-6 p.m. CT (1-4 p.m. PT) on Tuesday and 3-6 p.m. CT (1-4 p.m. PT) on Wednesday.
San Diego State is coming off a 12th-place finish at The Tindall on Sept. 23-24 at 13-over-par 865 after opening its fall campaign with a sixth-place showing at the William H. Tucker Invitational, Sept. 20-21, at 12-over 876.
Senior Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) leads the Aztecs with a 71.83 scoring average through two tournaments, while junior Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) is second at 72.17. Junior Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) and senior Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) are tied for third at 73.33, and freshman Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) rounds out the top 5 at 73.50.
Starting for SDSU head coach Ryan Donovan this week are Hastings, Kowack, Lague, Takis and Chokprajakchat.
San Diego State is competing in its third Jackson T. Stephens Cup since the inaugural tournament in 2021. In the 2021 edition, the Aztecs finished sixth of six teams in the stroke play portion before beating Alabama, 3-2, in match play. Last year, SDSU came in fifth out of seven and did not advance to match play.
The Jackson T. Stephens Cup is named in memory of the late Augusta National Chairman, Jackson T. Stephens, and launched in 2021. The tournament features NCAA Division I National Championship-contending men’s and women’s teams alongside collegiate players representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the United States Service Academies.
The Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, established on July 6, 1911, is the oldest and most prestigious private golf and country club in Oklahoma City. Initially formed by a committee of 300 members who acquired 160 acres of land in what is now known as the Crown Heights Addition before deciding to relocate to Nichols Hills. It was designed by renowned golf course designer Perry Duke Maxwell.
Following the Jackson T. Stephens Cup this week, SDSU closes out its fall season at the Cal Poly Invitational from Oct. 28-29 at The Preserve in Carmel Valley, California.
