SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women’s golf team plays in the University of Denver’s Ron Moore Intercollegiate this weekend. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday with schools playing 18 holes each day.
There will be 15 schools competing including Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming from the Mountain West. Other schools competing are Colorado, Hawai’i, Kansas State, Middle Tennessee State, Minnesota, Texas State, Tulane, Wichita State, Wyoming, Xavier and the host school Denver.
The Aztecs’ lineup is Stephanie Barbaglia, Ema Narita, Anika Sato, Emma Delwes and Kylie Phi.
Barbaglia has led the Aztecs in each of their first two tournaments and has finished at an even par or better in each of her last four tournaments, dating back to last year.
Narita has finished second behind Barbaglia in both tournaments this year. After shooting a four-over-par 220 in the season opening tournament, she finished with a three-over-par 219 last week.
Sato, who is making her 31st career start, shot a career-low 68 in the second round of SDSU’s last tournament.
Delwes will be making her first collegiate start. She made her debut last week playing at Colorado State’s Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic as an individual.
Phi has started all three tournaments this year, shooting a 228 (+12) and 226 (+10).
This is SDSU’s second straight tournament in Colorado and third straight year playing in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
The University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch is par 72 and was designed by three-time U.S. Open Champion Hale Irwin. It has views of the Rocky Mountains and features expansive greens. Its yardage will be 6,611 yards, but the ball will carry due to the mile-high elevation.
The forecast calls for sunny skies and warm weather all three days.
