SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s golf team closes out their fall season at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice this weekend. The Aztecs will play 18 holes each day Friday-Sunday.
It’s a large field with 19 schools, including eight in the top 25 (No. 3 Stanford, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 7 Texas, No. 14 USC, No. 12 Virginia, No. 16 LSU, No. 22 Cal and No. 25 UCLA) and another four in the top 50 (No. 31 Iowa State, No. 41 UC Davis, No. 43 San Jose State, No. 33 Wahington.) Also competing is Oregon State, Pepperdine, Princeton, Colorado and Denver. Additionally, Cal State Fullerton will have individuals competing.
SDSU’s lineup Stephanie Barbaglia, Ema Narita, Kylie Phi, Emma Delwes and Emilia Omander. It is the first time the Aztecs’ will start three freshmen in head coach Lauren Dobashi’s tenure (4th season).
Barbaglia leads the Aztecs with a 71.9 average and has led SDSU in two of their three tournaments. She has shot an even par or better in five of her nine rounds.
Narita has finished second or third among Aztecs in every tournament thus far. She also leads the Aztecs in count percentage (8-9, 94.4%).
Phi has started every tournament this season and has two rounds below par, including a 69.
Delwes will be making her second straight start and third appearance overall. She opened the last tournament with a one-over-par 73 and finished with a 230, her best score in her young career.
Omander, a freshman from Cologne, Germany, will be playing in her first collegiate tournament. She has been part of the German National Team for the last three years and won the 2022 German Junior Golf Masters.
SDSU will be paired with Denver and Princeton the first two rounds. They team off at 8:25 a.m. Friday and 12:40 p.m. Saturday. Sunday’s round begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The tournament is played at the Stanford Golf Course which is 6,278 yards and a par 71. Located on Stanford’s campus below the scenic foothills, the sprawling, championship layout is flanked by majestic oak trees and meandering San Francisquito Creek, the latter coming into play on nearly half the course.
The forecast calls for sunny skies with temperatures reaching the 70s.
The tournament is raising awareness for breast cancer with the PlayForHer campaign. Last year, the tournament raised nearly $300,000. All donations go to world renowned, Dr. Allison Kurian and the Stanford Breast Center.
