SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swim and dive program garnered two Mountain West weekly accolades on Tuesday, as Reka Nyiradi was named conference Swimmer of the Week, while Kaydence Bispo merited Freshman of the Week distinction. The announcement was made by the MW office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

With her award, Nyiradi earned the fourth conference weekly honor of her career, while Bispo was recognized for the first time as collegian, giving the Aztecs three such plaudits this season.

Nyiradi and Bispo played instrumental roles in leading SDSU to a dual-meet sweep of Alaska Fairbanks on the road last weekend (Oct. 11-12). As a result, the Aztecs raised their record to 5-0 this year and extended their winning streak to 70 straight dual meets dating back to Jan. 8, 2018. Additionally, the San Diego State duo combined to set three facility records at Patty Center Pool.

A native of Budapast, Hungary, Nyiradi captured two individual event titles in both meets against the Nanooks, accounting for 36 points on the weekend. On Friday, the Aztec sophomore won the 50 freestyle (24.69) and the 100 freestyle (52.46), as the Scarlet and Black rolled to a 125-75 triumph. Nyiradi returned the following day with two additional crowns, establishing a pool record in the 200 backstroke (2:00.53) after emerging victorious in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.80) in her collegiate debut in the event.

Not to be outdone, Nyiradi and Bispo joined forces on a pair of triumphant SDSU relay teams that set pool records on Friday, including the 400 medley relay (3:48.33) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.04).

Meanwhile, Bispo returned on Saturday to anchor the Aztecs’ victorious 200 medley (1:45.99) and 200 freestyle relay teams (1:35.86), helping the Scarlet and Black to another sizable 121-78 win. The Modesto, California, native also captured an event title in the 50 freestyle (23.97) to finish with 22 individual points on the two-day trip.

Previously, Bispo won the 200 freestyle (1:54.95) in Friday’s competition before placing second in the 100 freestyle (53.30).

Nyiradi and Bispo will return to the competition pool next month when San Diego State reconvenes with a full squad for the Hawkeye Invitational, Nov. 21-23, in Iowa City, Iowa.
