SAN DIEGO – For the first time in more than a decade, since the 2012-13 season when the Mountain West Conference consisted of nine basketball members, the league will play a balanced schedule (home-and-home with every member of the conference), for each of its teams in the 2024-25 season.

However, until Mountain West’s television partners select the games they will broadcast, the dates listed are subject to change. In addition, the television partners will determine the tip times and the majority of those will be announced along with associated date changes in the next 30-45 days.

San Diego State’s league season is scheduled to start at Fresno State on Wednesday, December 4, matching its earliest league contest in the 104-year history of the program. The Aztecs opened Mountain West play at Colorado State in the 2019-20 campaign on December 4. SDSU is 11-4 in Fresno’s Save Mart Center and has won its last six in the facility, including last year’s 73-41 victory. That 32-point loss is the third worst for Fresno State at home since 1996-97.

Mountain West games resume on Saturday, December 28, for San Diego State’s conference home opener against Utah State. Since they joined the league in 2013-14, SDSU is 10-0 versus the Aggies at home with eight of those 10 wins coming by double digits, including 85-75 last season.

Following the team’s first bye, on December 31, SDSU travels to Boise State to play on Saturday, January 4. ExtraMile Arena has not been kind to the Aztecs, with a 4-8 record in the building, which includes last season’s gut wrenching 66-67 loss. SDSU is winless in its last three trips to Boise, Idaho.

The schedule continues with Air Force coming to San Diego on Tuesday, January 7. The Falcons did not play in Viejas Arena last season and have lost 16 straight in the building. The Scarlet and Black’s last loss to the Falcons on its home floor was on Feb. 28, 2005, more than 7,000 days ago and it holds a 20-3 record in Viejas and 35-6 all-time against Air Force in San Diego.

On January 11, a Saturday, SDSU is in Albuquerque, N.M., for its match up with the New Mexico Lobos. The Aztecs are 4-4 in their last eight games and overall is 13-31 at The Pit.

San Diego State next plays a pair of home games: vs. Colorado State and UNLV on Tuesday, January 14 and Saturday, January 18, respectively. SDSU is 21-4 versus CSU all-time in Viejas Arena and has won the last four vs. the Rams in the facility. The Aztecs are 9-1 in the last 10 in Viejas against UNLV, with an average winning margin of 18.7 points in those nine victories. Its lone loss coming on February 22, 2020, which snapped SDSU’s 26-game win streak to open the 2019-20 campaign.

San Diego State is then on the road for its next two games: at Air Force (Tuesday, January 21) and Nevada (Saturday, January 25). SDSU has a 59.5-win percentage (25-17) in games played at the Falcons’ Clune Arena, including an 8-2 mark in its last 10 in the facility, the last five of which have come by double digits. Overall, the Aztecs have taken 10 of the last 12 against the Wolf Pack, is 21-5 in the Mountain West era and 25-7 all-time versus UNR, regardless of location. However, in games in Lawlor Event Center, the Scarlet and Black is just 5-6, which includes defeats in the last two games in Reno, one of which, last season, was a 70-66 overtime loss.

The Aztecs return home for their next two contests starting on Tuesday, January 28, against the San Jose State Spartans. On its home court, SDSU has won 33 of the 41 all-time meetings between the programs, including a 13-0 mark in games in Viejas Arena, where the Spartans have avoided a double-digit loss just three times since the start of the 1997-98 season.

Four days later, on Saturday, February 1, the Wyoming Cowboys come to America’s Finest City. San Diego State is 19-5 all-time in Viejas against Wyoming and has not lost to the Cowboys at home since January 3, 2007, a run of 16 straight victories. Those 16 consecutive wins have come by an average of 21.2 points per game and Wyoming hasn’t gotten to within single digits in a loss in Viejas since a 77-68, nine-point loss, on January 31, 2017.

Fort Collins, Colo., is the Aztecs destination on Saturday, February 8, in a matchup with the Colorado State Rams in Moby Arena. SDSU has emerged victorious in 12 of its last 18 games in Moby and in three of its last four wins, the margin of victory has been by 10 or more points.

San Diego State then heads to northern California for a game on Tuesday, February 11, at San Jose State. The Scarlet and Black are 7-4 in SJSU’s Events Center, including a 7-1 mark in the Mountain West era, and have won six of those seven games by double digits.

Four of the final seven regular season contests for the Aztecs will be contested in Viejas Arena, starting with Saturday, February 15 against Boise State and Tuesday, February 18 versus Fresno State. SDSU is 9-4 in Viejas against the Broncos, but just 2-2 in the last four including last season’s overtime, 77-79 loss, which cost San Diego State a perfect home record.

Since it joined the Mountain West prior to the 2012-13 school year, Fresno State has won three of its 10 games in Viejas. Although seven of those 10 games have been decided by 10 points or less, last season’s 27-point win for the Aztecs was its largest at home against the Bulldogs since at least 1980.

The team then heads to Logan, Utah to play Utah State on Saturday, February 22. San Diego State is 5-5 all-time in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum and has just a single win in its last five games in the facility, where the average margin of victory in those 10 matchups has been 3.3 points per game.

The penultimate regular-season home game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25 versus New Mexico. The Aztecs have a 16-7 mark against the Lobos in Viejas in the Mountain West era and wins those games by an average of 11.8 points per contests and in its last four home wins at Steve Fisher Court against UNM, the margin of victory has been by an average 19.8 points.

On Saturday, March 1, SDSU will be in Laramie, Wyo., for a game against the Cowboys. Overall San Diego State is just 13-27 at Wyoming, but in the Mountain West era has an 11-10 mark in the Arena-Auditorium. The Aztecs have won each of their last three games there by an average of 10.7 points.

The final road contest will be at UNLV on Tuesday, March 4. San Diego State is 14-2 in its last 16 games at Thomas and Mack Center, including its most recent victory, a 74-71 overtime win against the Rebels in both team’s opening game of the 2024 Mountain West Tournament.

The regular season is scheduled to conclude for SDSU at home against Nevada on Saturday, March 8. The teams will meet in their regular season finale for the sixth time in the last eight seasons. In Viejas, San Diego State has a 12-0 mark against the Wolf Pack and overall is 14-1 as the home team against Nevada.
