SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s Sara Jones has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for her performance at the UC Riverside Invitational this past weekend. She is the first Aztec to earn the weekly honor in the conference’s four years of honoring freshman in their weekly awards.
The Gilbert, Ariz. native ran a 17:53.1 in the 5k race at the UC Riverside Invitational. The time shattered her previous personal best by over a full minute in just her second collegiate race. She finished sixth out of 280 competitors.
Jones’ time is also the fastest by an Aztec at UCR’s 5k course since 2017 and ranks fifth fastest by an Aztec in the race in program history.
