Chan and Martinache Advance at USTA Championships

San Diego State women’s tennis wrapped up day two of the USTA Intercollegiate Championships at the University of San Diego on Friday with two Aztecs advancing to Saturday’s draw.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis wrapped up day two of the USTA Intercollegiate Championships at the University of San Diego on Friday with two Aztecs advancing to Saturday’s draw.

Jo-Yee Chan and Ninon Martinache are moving on to the doubles semifinal after a 6-3 win over ASU’s Karsyn Evans and Ada Piestrzynska. Next up, the duo will face off against Utah’s Emma Kamper and Sara Akid.

Chan’s success continued in the singles round of 16 where she recorded a 7-5, 6-3 win over Cheuk Ying of San Jose St, but the junior transfer ultimately fell 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) to BYU’s Grace Levelston in the quarterfinal.

Chan and Martinache will kick off day three of the tournament at 10 a.m. PT.
