TUCSON, Ariz. – Men’s tennis wrapped up their three-day tournament stay at the Wildcat Invitational today, officially kicking off their fall season with a solid first outing by the three freshmen.
The future looks bright for the Aztecs, who are a young squad this year. Marc Kleber, Denis Maijorov and Paul Janson made the trip to Tucson, each picking up wins in their collegiate debut.
In the final day of the tournament, Maijorov claimed a dominating victory over New Mexico State’s Henrik Lynum in a consolation match, winning 6-2, 6-1. A few courts over, Janson defeated New Mexico’s Conor Dils, 6-4, 6-3 (consolation).
The duo also tallied a win in doubles play, taking down Luc Fe D’Ostiani and Roko Stipetic of New Mexico State, 7-6 (0-1).
Adding to day one wins by Liam Spiers and Marc Kleber, and day two consolation wins by Janson and Maijorov, the team can now look ahead to the rest of the season as the newcomers return to San Diego with their first taste of college tennis.
Up next, the Aztecs will travel to Las Vegas for the Mountain West Automatic Qualifiers tournament, taking place October 2-5.
