TUCSON, Ariz. – San Diego State men’s tennis kicked off their fall season today on the road at the Wildcat Invite in Tucson, Ariz. where they picked up two wins.
Facing Northern Arizona’s Semen Aginskiy, freshman Marc Kleber lost the first set 3-6, but rallied to pull of a gritty three-set win in his collegiate debut (6-3, 6-4).
Kleber, along with senior Liam Spiers claimed a second win for the Aztecs against New Mexico State’s Tobias Wallin and Itay Feigin in doubles play, defeating the duo 6-4.
Prior to beginning his college career at SDSU, Kleber most recently competed for German club team TUS Neunkirchen. The Saarland, Germany native garnered three junior state championships, as well as a regional team championship. He is now looking to make an immediate impact for the Aztecs.
Spiers and freshmen Paul Janson and Denis Maijorov also battled hard in their singles matches, but ultimately fell short to Dani Torres (Northern Arizona), Santi Padilla-Cote (Arizona) and Matthias Kask (Arizona), respectively.
The four Aztecs will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the tournament.
