SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swim and dive program has unveiled its highly anticipated 2024-25 schedule, as head coach Mike Shrader and the Aztecs pursue their fourth consecutive Mountain West championship.
SDSU’s eagerly awaited docket commences on Friday, Sept. 13, when the Scarlet and Black plays host to the University of San Diego in their annual pentathlon meet at Aztec Aquaplex. Two weeks later, the Toreros will return to The Mesa for another showdown on Friday, Sept. 27, with both competitions slated to begin at 1 p.m. PT.
San Diego State will hit the road for its next five team events, starting Oct. 3, when it travels up the coast to Malibu, California, for a dual meet against Pepperdine before continuing north to the Central Valley for an annual appearance in the Fresno State Invitational, Oct. 4-5.
The Aztecs will increase their frequent flyer mileage exponentially the following week when they travel to the Last Frontier for a pair of meets against Alaska Fairbanks, Oct. 11-12. The two teams met in San Diego last season, as the Scarlet and Black improved to 4-0 in the all-time series after defeating the Nanooks on consecutive days at the Aquaplex. In addition, SDSU will be embarking on its second trip to the Fairbanks campus after a two-meet excursion in the fall of 2019.
The Aztecs will endure a near six-week hiatus from competition before jetting off to the Midwest for the three-day Hawkeye Invitational, Nov. 21-23, in Iowa City, Iowa.
As the calendar flips page, SDSU divers will enjoy one last tune-up before the holiday when they make the short drive up the freeway for the Riverside Diving Invitational, Dec. 6-7.
After New Year’s celebrations subside, the Scarlet and Black will entertain Pepperdine and Mountain West rival New Mexico in a double dual at Aztec Aquaplex on Jan. 2, before playing welcoming Cal State East Bay to “America’s Finest City” on Jan. 7.
San Diego State will remain local for their ensuing competitions, with Aztec divers returning to Riverside for California Baptist’s Lancer Diving Invitational, Jan. 9-11, while the swimmers battle USD and conference foe Colorado State in another double dual at the Toreros home facility on Jan. 11.
The Aztecs will then return to the Alcala Park campus two weeks later to lock horns with the Toreros at the USD Sports Center Pool on Jan. 24.
SDSU divers will find themselves in the spotlight once again when they hit the road for the Lumberjack Invitational, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, in Flagstaff, Arizona.
For the third straight season, the Mountain West Championships will be conducted in Houston, Texas, where the Aztecs will be aiming to defending their conference crown, Feb 19-22, at CRWC Natatorium on the University of Houston campus.
Last year, SDSU completed the three-peat after racking up 1,487.50 points to capture its fifth league title in the last six years. Following the season, Shrader earned the 10th Mountain West Swim Coach of the Year honor of his career, while Roland McDonald was tabbed conference Diving Coach of the Year for the third time in his tenure on The Mesa.
Postseason action continues in earnest the following month when Aztec divers participate in the NCAA Zone E Championships, March 10-12, at a site to be determined.
Shortly thereafter, SDSU's quest for national glory continues for select qualifiers, March 19-22, when the NCAA Championships convene outside of Seattle in Federal Way, Washington.
The Aztecs will then conclude their home slate with a tentatively scheduled long course meet against USD on an unspecified date in April.
