SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team is back in action on the SDSU Sports Deck on Saturday night when it takes on the No. 11 Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and the match will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
In its match last week, San Diego State (1-1-1) took on No. 2 Stanford. Kali Trevithick scored on a penalty kick for the first goal allowed by the Cardinal all season in a 3-1 defeat. The goal was also just the second scored by San Diego State in four matches against top two-ranked teams in the Mountain West era (since 1999).
SDSU comes in as winners of nine of its last ten night matches.
Like Stanford last week, Oklahoma State (4-0-0) comes to the Sports Deck without having allowed a goal this season. The Cowgirls, currently ranked No. 11 in the nation, have had their season highlighted by a 2-0 win at No. 6 Nebraska to open the season as well as a 1-0 win over Oklahoma in the Bedlam rivalry match on August 22.
San Diego State has never played the Cowgirls but has two wins and two ties in nine matches against Big 12 opposition.
Next week, the Aztecs are hitting the road for their lone nonconference road match of the season on Thursday, September 5, at 5 p.m. PT at Texas. The Longhorns are currently ranked No. 14, and the match will be broadcast on SEC Network+. Should Texas remain ranked, it will mark the first time in the Mountain West era that San Diego State is playing three consecutive ranked opponents.
