SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team is back in action on the SDSU SportsDeck on Thursday when it faces the No. 2-ranked Stanford Cardinal at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.

In the first week of its season, San Diego State (1-0-1) shut out Cal State Bakersfield 3-0 before tying Weber State 1-1. Mountain West Watch List players Denise Castro, Emma Gaines-Ramos and Grace Goins each scored as did Olivia Sekimoto while Carlin Blake’s two assists rank second in the Mountain West. In goal, Alexa Madueno earned her 23rd career shutout against the Roadrunners.

SDSU comes in as winners of its last nine night matches as well as its last nine Thursday matches.

Stanford (2-0-0) began its 2024 slate with a pair of shutout victories, winning at San Francisco 1-0 and against UC Irvine 3-0.  The Cardinal, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, were the national runners up last season, falling 5-1 to top-ranked Florida State in the national championship match.

The two teams have met on ten occasions with the Cardinal taking nine in addition to a tie. Only three of the meetings took place in America’s Finest City (including the tie) and none since 1995 so this will be Stanford’s first time playing on the SportsDeck.

The Aztecs will be back on the SportsDeck on Saturday, August 31, for a match against Oklahoma State, currently ranked No. 17. Admission is free and the match will be broadcast on Mountain West Network.
