EUGENE, Ore. -- San Diego State junior Xiamara Young finished in fifth place in the triple jump at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Saturday at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Young, a Las Vegas native, matched her personal best on her second of six jumps with a leap of 44 feet, 4 inches (13.51 meters). Young finished as the top collegian in the event and was just two places out of qualifying for the Olympics next month in Paris. Young also cleared 43 feet on her third and fifth jumps, respectively, logging equal marks of 43-00.25 (13.11m).
Puma's Jasmine Moore won the event with a jump of 46-09.50 (14.26m), while Mizuno's Keturah Orji (46-08.00 (14.22m)) and Nike's Tori Franklin (45-00.25, 13.72m)) rounded out the podium.
The fifth-place showing wrapped up a banner year for the Fresno Pacific transfer. Young came in 21st earlier this month at the NCAA Championships with a mark of 41-08.00 (12.70m) after qualifying for the meet with a leap of 44-04.00 (13.51m) at the NCAA West Prelims in May. Young also was ninth at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships at 43-06.00 (13.26m). She garnered honorable mention USTFCCCA All-America status in outdoor and second-team recognition in indoor.
Young is ranked fourth in the triple jump in both the SDSU indoor and outdoor top-10 list.
