SAN DIEGO – Aji Mbye has been named the Mountain West Women's Freshman of the Week for her performance at last weekend's Triton Invitational, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Mbye (The Gambia) raced in three events, finishing in the top two in each of them. Her day started as the second leg of the 4x100m relay team. The Aztecs won the race by nearly a full second with a time of 44.81 seconds.
Individually, she finished second in the 100m dash finishing just four-hundredths of a second behind teammate Hannah Waller. Her runner-up time of 11.42 ranks the fastest by any San Diego State freshman and puts her at number five on the all-time list.
Her Saturday ended in the 200m dash, winning the race at 23.55 seconds despite going against a minus-2.2 headwind.
Mbye now ranks first among all Mountain West freshman in the 100m and 200m races this season, while her 200m time is second overall and her 100m time is fourth.
