SAN DIEGO – The Aztec lacrosse team fell to No. 17 Stanford 19-5 Saturday afternoon. Sara Toner led the Aztecs with two goals.

Despite coming out of the gate strong, the Aztecs (1-12, 0-4) slowed down after the first quarter, being down 11-4 at halftime. The Cardinal (8-3, 4-0) had 11 unanswered goals for thirty minutes between the second and fourth quarters. The Cardinal out-shot the Aztecs 42-20 and 37-12 in shots on goal. SDSU was 2-4 in free-position shots, while Stanford was 5-6.

Toner led the Aztecs with two goals on three shots on goal, including a free-position goal. The other three goals came from Brooklyne Waddell, Emma Betts, and Frankie Garcia. Nikki Seven had the only assist on the day. Garcia led the team with four ground balls and Victoria Rankin led the team with three draw controls. Goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton had 16 saves and 19 goals allowed on 40 shots faced.

Annabel Frist led the Cardinal with five goals and 14 draw controls. Jay Browne led the team with three assists. Sophia Brindisi led the Cardinal with four ground balls and Madison McPherson led the team with three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Lucy Pearson had six saves and four goals allowed on 17 shots faced.

"I was happy about the way that our team came out to compete in the first half. The talk before the game was about coming out and showcasing our hard work, determination, and unity. All the things that we work so hard on every single day and I just wanted our team to come out, compete, and feel good, and I think we did that. There were a couple things that we talked about improving at halftime, and instead of making those small changes, we second guessed what we were doing," explained Head Coach Kylee White. "A 17th ranked team like Stanford, you open the door for any opportunity and they're going to take advantage of it. We were fouling again, which I thought we had been cleaning up in our last couple games. We have some confidence issues, which I think comes from a losing record. It's unfortunate, we're doing so many good things, but you can't see it because there's too many negatives. They're showing up and working hard every day. It's a year of growth and I think it's helping us get ready for next weekend against Oregon."
