COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State's Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) has been named the Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is the first MW golfer-of-the-week award for the junior.

Hastings tied for second out of 96 golfers last week at the 77th Western Intercollegiate. Hastings finished at 3-under 207 for the tournament on the historic par-70, 6,486-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California, opening with a 1-over 71 on Monday, followed by a 70 on Tuesday and a 66 in Wednesday's final round. The 66 was tied for the lowest score in the final round where the average score in the field was 72.52 and tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament. Hastings tied Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen for second, currently the No. 3 ranked amateur in the world, just one shot behind medalist Filip Jakubcik of Arizona (-4).

Hastings ranks second on the team in scoring this year with a 70.96 stroke average (-10) through 27 rounds and nine events. Hastings also is second in rounds below par (12) and rounds in the 60s (7), and tied for second in even-par rounds (3). He was a PING All-West Region selection and an all-Mountain West pick last season, and is a two-time MW All-Academic Team member and two-time MW Freshman of the Week.

Hastings and the back-to-back Mountain West champions will look for a third straight title when they compete in the MWChampionships, April 26-28, at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington.
