SAN DIEGO – Jessica Kain has been named the Mountain West Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance over the weekend. The conference office announced the award winners on Tuesday.
The Scotts Valley, Calif. native ran a season best 4:15.99 in the 1,500m at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. The time put her in fifth place of the fastest section at the premier meet that featured nearly 100 teams from around the country.
While shy of her personal best, it breaks a San Diego State senior class record that stood untouched since 1982 when Aztec Hall of Famer Lynn Kanuka ran a 4:17.28 in the event.
Kain now ranks first in the Mountain West for the 1,500m to go along with her conference leading mark in the 800m after the first month of the outdoor season.
