SAN DIEGO – Rose Kanemy, a junior attacker for the San Diego State water polo team, is the Golden Coast Conference (GCC) Player of the Week for the week ending April 14.
Kanemy, a native of Montreal, totaled five goals, four assists, three steals and a pair of blocks in the team's wins over Concordia and Santa Clara last weekend at Aztec Aquaplex.
Against Concordia, on Friday, Kanemy picked up her first hat trick of the season to go along with three assists, two steals and a block. Her first goal, midway through the first quarter gave SDSU a 3-1 lead. Early in the third period, with the Aztecs clinging to a one goal advantage, 7-6, Kanemy banged the back of the cage to spark a three-goal barrage which culminated with her third strike which made the score 10-6. The Scarlet and Black cruised to a 12-8 win.
Then on Saturday against Santa Clara, in a 14-8 Aztecs victory, Kanemy scored twice to go along with an assist, a steal and block. With the score tied 3-3 midway through the first quarter, the product of College de Montreal scored to give San Diego State a lead it would not relinquish. Then in the first minute of the second period, Kanemy scored again to push the advantage to three goals, 7-4.
This is Kanemy's first GCC Player of the Week honor and the second for an Aztec this season.
