Aztecs in Fifth After First Round of MW Championship

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The San Diego State women's golf team sits in fifth place after one round at the Mountain West Championship. The Aztecs shot a six-over-par 294 and were led by Emma Narita and Stephanie Barbaglia who both carded rounds under par.
 
Narita is tied for fourth place after shooting a two-under-par 70. She only bogeyed one hole, the first one, then was three-under-par the rest of the way. Narita tied for the best scores on par threes, averaging 2.75 strokes per par three.
 
Barbaglia had a team-high four birdies to offset three bogeys. After 18 holes, she is tied for seventh place.
 
Freshman Nikki Kato, who was a late replacement for Andrea Gomez, had the third best score among Aztecs with a four-over-par 76, which tied her career-best score.
 
Anika Sato finished with a five-over-par 77 and Anna Lina Otten finished outside the scoring with a 78 (+6).
 
San Jose State holds a six-stroke lead through 18 holes after shooting an eight-under-par 280. The Spartans' Lucia Lopez-Ortega is the individual leader (67, -5).
