AZUSA, Calif. – The San Diego State distance runners got their weekend of competition started as six runners raced at the Bryan Clay Invitational and two more raced at the Leopard Distance Carnival on Friday. The day started and ended with SDSU all-time top ten marks.
The final race of the day turned into the biggest performance of the day as Vanessa Cabello ran in heat three of the 5,000m open section. The junior crossed the line in 16:38.76 to finish 13th in the 22-woman race. Her time improves on her number five ranking on San Diego State's all-time list by just under two seconds.
Maddie Heller participated in the first event of the day, running in the 10,000m run and etching her name into SDSU's record books. Crossing the line in 36:46.06, her time ranks tenth fastest on the all-time list. She finished eighth in heat number two and 28th overall.
In the 800m open section, Tatum Zinkin ran a personal best of 2:10.83 for a 32nd-place finish. Less than a second behind her was Lauren Harper at a season best 2:11.66 in 55th. They both finished third in their respective heats. Alex Lomeli also ran a season best 2:07.61 in the invitational section of the 800m.
Eva Rethmeier also ran in the 5,000m open section in Azusa, finishing 26th in the first heat of the event with a time of 17:10.71. In the same event at the Leopard Distance Carnival, Maddy Parrone ran personal best 18:29.82 while Bella Peretti crossed the line in 19:13.76.
San Diego State will wrap up their time at the Bryan Clay Invitational tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m.
