COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State softball pitcher Cece Cellura (Glendale, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is the first conference weekly award for the right-hander.
 
Cellura pitched in three games for the Aztecs (9-10) over the weekend at the Purple & Gold Challenge, going 1-0 with a 1.45 ERA in 14 1/3 innings, starting all three appearances. Cellura struck out 11 without a walk, limiting the opposition to just 12 hits and a .211 batting average.
 
Cellura started against McNeese on Friday, giving up two runs on four hits and no walks over 4 1/3 innings, striking out a career-high six batters. She earned the start against host No. 4/5 LSU on Saturday night and gave up one run on four hits and no walks over five innings, striking out two before exiting with the game tied at 1-1. Cellura picked up the win in SDSU's 3-0 shutout over Illinois on Sunday, tossing five scoreless innings with four hits allowed (all singles) and no walks, while striking out three.
 
On the season, Cellura is 2-1 with a team-low 2.37 ERA in 11 appearances (eight starts) over 41 1/3 innings. She has struck out 18 against four walks, while holding the opposition to a .267 average.
 
San Diego State plays host to Utah at 5 p.m. PT Wednesday at SDSU Softball Stadium in a rematch of last year's NCAA Super Regional in Salt Lake City.
