SDSU Ties for 14th at The Goodwin

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Diego State men's golf team finished in a tie for 14th-place out of 31 teams at The Goodwin, which wrapped up Saturday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. The Aztecs shot a 1-over-par 281 today on the par-70, 7,193-yard course and finished at +22 for the tournament.
 
SDSU, which is 29th in the latest NCAA golf rankings, tied with No. 19 California and Cal Poly at 22-over 862, eight shots back of No. 25 Oregon in 10th place (+12). No. 22 Georgia was the only team under par at 1-under 839, while Utah (E), No. 44 Stanford (+4), No. 7 Tennessee (+5) and No. 15 Georgia Tech (+6) rounded out the top 5.
 
Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) was San Diego State's top golfer, tying for 19th out of 168 players at 1-over 211. Kowack opened with a 4-over 74 on Thursday, then finished with a 69 on Friday and a 2-under 68 in today's final round. Starting on the 10th hole, Kowack had five birdies, including four in a seven-hole stretch on his back nine. He also had three bogeys.
 
Jackson Moss (San Diego/Point Loma HS) tied for 60th at +7 following a 72 today. Moss got back to even par with three birdies in a six-hole stretch on his back nine, but finished bogey-bogey to settle for the 72.
 
Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) tied for 68th at 8-over par, going 73, 73 and 72 for the weekend. Chokprajakchat, who was in a tie for 68th at the end of each of the three days, had three birdies today but bogeyed three of his final four holes for his 72.
 
Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) bounced back from consecutive 75s with a 1-under 69, moving up 39 places into a tie for 80th at +9. Lague sank three birdies against two bogeys in today's final round.
 
Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) finished two shots back of Lague in a tie for 111th at +11 with his second straight 72. Hastings sank two birdies on the day, which were offset by four bogeys.
 
Utah's Braxton Watts captured medalist honors at 5-under 205. Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen came in second at -4, while Clemson's Jonathan Nielsen, Georgia's Van Wyk and San Francisco's Jacob Melin all tied for third at -3.
 
Next up for the Aztecs will be the Western Intercollegiate, April 15-17, at Pasatiempo G.C. in Santa Cruz, California.
