Dee Dee Hernandez Named MW Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State softball's Dee Dee Hernandez (La Crescenta, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is the first conference weekly award for the left-hander.  
 
Hernandez helped the Aztecs to a 2-1 series win at Fresno State last weekend. Hernandez went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 10 1/3 innings across three appearances (one start), giving up just five hits and two walks, while striking out four. In all, opponents hit just .152 off her with all five hits being singles.
 
Hernandez opened her weekend on Friday, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in a 4-1 SDSU loss, giving up two hits and a walk. In a 5-1, 13-inning San Diego State victory in the nightcap, Hernandez hurled five scoreless innings with two hits and a walk allowed, striking out two. She ended her weekend by combining on a shutout with Allie Light in a 4-0 win on Sunday, tossing Tossed four scoreless innings with just one hit and no walks allowed, while striking out two.
 
On the season, Hernandez is 6-2 with a save and team-low 1.80 ERA in 42 2/3 innings. She has appeared in 18 games with two starts, combining on two Aztec shutouts. Hernandez has struck out 25 with just eight walks, while holding the opposition to a .229 average. Hernandez is even better in Mountain West play, going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 11 1/3 innings.
 
SDSU welcomes Colorado State for a weekend series with games set for 6 p.m. PT Thursday, 6 p.m. PT Friday and noon PT Saturday at SDSU Softball Stadium.
