Two Event Wins Highlight Final Day of Aztec InvitationalTwo Event Wins Highlight Final Day of Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State track and field concluded their 45th annual Aztec Invitational on Saturday afternoon despite the rainy conditions on the SDSU Sports Deck. For the day, the Aztecs had two event victories and three marks entered into the record books.

Hannah Waller claimed the first Aztec victory of the day finishing atop the long jump standings. After back-to-back fouls on her first two attempts, she responded with the best jump of the event going 6.19m (20-3.75). The mark would rank fifth best in program history, but it came with a plus-4.3 wind aid so the mark cannot count toward the all-time top ten. She topped second place by just eight inches.

The second win for the Scarlet and Black came from Jessica Kain in the 800m. Right after being honored as part of the 2024 SDSU senior class during the event break, she posted a time of 2:07.52 to shatter PR by six seconds and edge the runner-up by three-hundredths of a second. Her time goes as the ninth best in program history. It is her ninth different mark in the San Diego State record books.

The day started with a top ten mark in javelin courtesy of Jenna Fee Feyerabend. The junior came out firing with a career best throw of 44.09m (144-8) on her first attempt. It is a 14 foot, one inch improvement on her PR and moves her into fifth on the all-time list.

Jordan Leveque led a group of four pole vaulters on Saturday, becoming the 20th different Aztec to clear 3.97m in outdoor history. She finished third overall, clearing the bar at 4.07m (13-4.25). It moves her into a tie for 13th all-time in SDSU history.

As the clock hit 1 p.m., the rain started to fall which happened to be the same time as the 100m dash. Despite the conditions, Jada Pierre led the Aztec sprinters with a wind-aided time of 11.59 for a fifth-place finish in the overall standings. Aji Mbye, in her outdoor debut, won her heat with a time of 11.65 which placed her eighth overall.

SDSU will have a select group of distance runners compete at the Stanford Invitational next weekend, but the majority of the team will have the weekend off from competition.
