ATHENS, Ga. – San Diego State's Alex Roberts and Christiana Williams competed in a pair of preliminary events on Friday at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Georgia's Jack Baurle Pool inside Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Swimming in the 100 backstroke, Roberts finished in the 30th position with a time of 52.08, while Williams was 41st in the 100 breaststroke after completing the race at 1:00.42.

As a result of those placements, neither competitor was unable to advance to the final session in their respective events.

Roberts was also invited to participate in the 100 butterfly prior to the national meet but did not participate in the preliminary race on Friday.

San Diego State wraps up its appearance in the NCAA Championships on Saturday when Roberts is scheduled to swim in the 200 backstroke, while Williams will partake in the 200 breaststroke.

Roberts qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 back after capturing a gold medal at the Mountain West Championships last month with a season-fast time of 1:52.92, missing her own school and conference record by just .04 seconds. With her effort, the SDSU senior earned a No. 17 seed heading into the national meet.

Meanwhile, Williams punched her ticket to the NCAA meet in the 200 breaststroke after winning a gold medal of her own at the Mountain West Championships with a season-fast swim of 2:09.19, which ranks 30th in the nation.

ESPN+ will provide broadcast coverage for both Saturday sessions, with preliminaries scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT, followed by the finals at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
