Aztec Invitational Meet Info

SAN DIEGO –
San Diego State track and field is set for their lone home meet of the outdoor season as they host the 45th annual Aztec Invitational this weekend. The three-day meet will take place Thursday through Saturday.
 
This year's meeet will include 18 NCAA Division I and two Division II teams, as well as over 60 unattached and professional athletes. As is an Aztec Invitational tradition, the meet will also feature a number of elite paralympians.
 
The entireity of the meet will take place on the Choc Sportsman/Aztrack on the SDSU Sports Deck with the exception of the men's and women's hammer, which will happen on the campus of nearby UC San Diego on Friday. Friday and Saturday's invitational events will be streamed live on the RunnerSpace+ platform.
 
The Aztecs will have 34 student-athletes compete, totaling 57 entries between Friday and Saturday's events. The list is made up of 15 sprints, 13 mid-distance, eight jumps, seven distance, five throws, four pole vaulters, four hurdles and one relay.
 
Last Time Out
• San Diego State had just two throwers compete on their second weekend of outdoor competition at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational on the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University.
Thaila Wilson made her outdoor debut, winning the javelin with a throw of 126-7. Improving her mark on each of her four attempts, she finished five feet better than the second-place.
Keira Bennett was the other thrower, making her collegiate debut. She had a solid day finishing fourth in the hammer at 133-11, and eighth in javelin at 101-7.
 
Aztec Tidbits
• Head coach Shelia Burrell is in her 15th year leading the Aztec track and field program. This is her 14th outdoor season with 2020 being cancelled. In that time, she has led the team to six Mountain West Championships and won six MW Coach of the Year awards.
• The roster consists of 22 returning student-athletes and 17 newcomers. Of the newcomers, nine are freshmen. Combined, the returners have 23 marks in the program's all-time records.
• SDSU has won two of the last three Mountain West Outdoor Championships, four of the last six, and six total under head coach Shelia Burrell. They have finished first or second each of the last seven years and finished top three each of the last 10.
• San Diego State returns six Mountain West champions, led by three-time defending 100m and 4x100m winner Jada Moore. In total, she has seven outdoor event titles which ranksfourth most in program history.
• The Aztecs had 14 qualify for the NCAA West Preliminaries for 16 total entries. Two would go on to reach the NCAA Championships including returnee Jenna Fee Feyerabend in the heptathlon.
