SAN DIEGO – Thaila Wilson competed in her first outdoor meet of the season, and won the javelin throw at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday. Her and Keira Bennett were the lone Aztecs to compete in the meet.
Wilson improved on each of her four throws of the day, finishing with a mark of 38.58m (126-7) to claim the victory. Her throw was five feet better than the second-place finisher's mark.
Keira Bennett made her Aztec debut at the meet, throwing in both the javelin and hammer. In hammer, she won her flight and finished fourth overall at 40.82m (133-11). She picked up a second top ten-placement, finishing eighth overall in javelin with a throw of 30.98m (101-7).
San Diego State's next meet is their only home meet, hosting the 45th annual Aztec Invitational next weekend. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday and end Saturday afternoon.
