Four Aztecs Compete in 3-Meter Event at NCAA Zones

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – San Diego State's Valentina Lopez Arevalo advanced to the finals of the 3-meter springboard on Tuesday to lead a contingent of four Aztec student-athletes at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at Wall Aquatic Center on the Northern Arizona University campus.

A native of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, Lopez Arevalo finished in 11th place with 560.10 points on the day but slipped three spots from the eighth position after racking up 286.05 points in the preliminaries, which consisted of 50 divers.

The rest of the SDSU delegation was unable to qualify for the final round, however, as freshman Alina Skrocki placed 31st in the opening session with 238.95 points, while fellow classmate Jessica Schroeder was slotted 37th with 222.55 points in her first NCAA Zone E appearance.

The Aztecs were also represented by junior Summer Westmoreland, who finished in the 43rd spot with 215.15 points.

San Diego State wraps up its stay at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Wednesday with platform competition, which is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. PT. Entering the week, Lopez Arevalo, Skrocki and Westmoreland were scheduled to participate in the event along with Olivia Zamudio, Taylor Konopacke and Jules Harrison.

Divers that finish in the top nine for the platform will automatically qualify for NCAA Championships, scheduled for March 20-23 in Athens, Georgia.
