BOSTON, Mass. – Xiamara Young finished ninth in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon. It goes as the best championship finish by an Aztec in a full decade.

The ninth-place finish is the ninth top ten placement in SDSU indoor triple jump history at the championship meet. It is also the best placement since Shanieka Thomas won the national title in 2014.

The Las Vegas native jumped 12.10m (39-8.5) on her first attempt putting her in ninth-place at the end of the first round of jumps. She nearly improved her mark by a full meter on her second attempt landing at 13.02m (42-8.75), but moved to 12th in the standings at the end of two rounds.

Just as she did in her previous attempt, Young improved on her mark jumping 13.26m (43-6) on her third attempt. The jump moved her up into a qualifying spot for the finals and three more attempts.

Unfortunately, she would not improve on her mark in the finals giving her the ninth-place spot in the standings.

While the 43-foot, 6-inch jump is shy of her PR, it ranks seventh among the 10 Aztec performances in the NCAA Indoor Championship meet.

Texas Tech's Ruta Lasmane won gold with a jump of 14.47m (47-5.75), San Jose State's Emilia Sjostrand took silver at 13.72m (45-0.25) and Georgia's Mikeisha Welcome earned the bronze at 13.71m (44-11.75).

The ninth-place finish earns Xiamara Young a second team All-America honor to wrap up her first career indoor season.
