FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – San Diego State advanced all six divers to the finals of the 3-meter springboard event to highlight Friday's competition at the Lumberjack Invitational on the campus of Northern Arizona University.
For the second straight day, the Aztecs were paced by Valentina Lopez Arevalo, who place fourth in a field of 18 student-athletes with a combined score of 599.40, finishing behind a trio of competitors from host NAU in Margaret Wesche (614.25), Mackenna Stocker (611.90) and Maegan Jensen (608.05).
After a fifth-place showing in the preliminary round, Lopez Arevalo climbed one spot in the finals with a total of 300.35 points, eclipsing another NCAA Zone qualifying standard (280) in the process.
In addition, the freshman duo of Alina Skrocki and Jessica Schroeder logged a pair of top-10 performances for the Scarlet and Black at Wall Aquatic Center.
Skrocki, who prepped at BASIS High School in Flagstaff, completed the day in ninth with an aggregate total of 537.15 points, featuring a final-round score of 283.25 to vault three places in the field and surpass an NCAA Zone qualifying mark of her own.
However, Schroeder just missed an NCAA Zone qualifying total with 279.05 points in the finals but still managed to move up one notch in the standings into 10th place with a collective score of 535.05.
Meanwhile, Jules Harrison finished just behind Schroeder in 11th place with a combined 518.40 points, highlighted by a preliminary round score of 269.50.
The Aztec delegation also featured Summer Westmoreland (492.20) and Olivia Zamudio (482.80), who were slotted 13th and 15th in the final standings, respectively.
Westmoreland compiled a total of 247.60 points in the preliminaries, while Zamudio's day featured a score of 251.90 in the finals.
Friday's action also included a seven-squad team competition, as the SDSU trio of Lopez Arevalo, Skrocki and Westmoreland placed fourth with 253.25 points, while the Aztecs' combo of Zamudio, Harrison and Schroeder tallied 218.95 points to finish sixth.
Along with host NAU, which grabbed the top two spots (289.25; 268.10), New Mexico State took third (257.60), while New Mexico was fifth (226.75), followed by Idaho in seventh (217.20).
