SAN DIEGO – In its final tune up prior to the conference championships, the San Diego State diving contingent will head to the Grand Canyon State this week for the Lumberjack Invitational, Feb. 8-10, at Wall Aquatic Center in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The three-day meet begins for seven Aztec student-athletes on Thursday with the preliminaries of the 1-meter springboard at 10:30 a.m. MST, with the top 18 finishers advancing to the finals, which are slated to begin approximately 15 minutes after the preliminary round is complete.

Friday's action features the same format for the 3-meter springboard with another 10:30 a.m. MST start, while Saturday's platform event gets underway at 10 a.m. MST with another two rounds of dives.

Along with host Northern Arizona, SDSU will square off against fellow Mountain West member New Mexico this week, as well as competitors from Idaho and New Mexico State.

Results on all three days may be accessed on DiveMeets.com.

On Jan. 26, the Aztecs' full swim and dive squad recorded its 65th consecutive dual-meet victory after posting a 146-121 triumph over the University of San Diego.

SDSU divers played a key role in that win, as junior Valentina Lopez Arevalo claimed event titles on the 1-meter (294.68) and 3-meter boards (308.55) to garner Mountain West Diver of the Week accolades for the third time this season. Both of her efforts surpassed NCAA Zone qualifying standards.

In addition, the Aztecs received a pair of second-place performances from Alina Skrocki against the Toreros. The SDSU freshman eclipsed two NCAA Zone qualifying marks of her own, collecting a season-high 267.60 points in 1-meter competition while logging her second-highest total of the year at 289.05 on the 3-meter board.

Lopez Arevalo has won the platform event in each of her previous two trips to the Lumberjack Invitational, including a winning score of 250.25 points in 2023. In addition, the Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, native placed second in 3-meter competition at the same meet last year with a season-best total of 307.90.

Elsewhere, Summer Westmoreland set a career best in the 3-meter event at the 2023 Lumberjack Invite, finishing 12th in the finals (287.90) before placing ninth in platform competition (214.10).

Following the upcoming excursion to NAU, the entire San Diego State swim and dive team will reconvene in two weeks, seeking its third consecutive conference title at the 2024 Mountain West Championships, Feb. 21-24, in Houston, Texas.
