ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Shaquena Foote highlighted day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic for San Diego State, breaking her own school record in the 400m set just two weeks ago in the season opener.

The redshirt sophomore was the final Aztec to compete in the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday afternoon. Running in the first heat, she posted a 53.26 besting her PR and school record by four-hundredths of a second. Her heat wound up being the fastest for the event as she finished third overall, and second collegiate finisher, behind her two competitors in heat number one.

The time improves on her Mountain West-leading mark and has her ranked fifth in the west region.

Xiamara Young had a great start to her weekend leaping her way into the SDSU all-time top ten in long jump. On her second attempt of the afternoon, she launched herself 19-9 for a new personal best and tenth best mark in school history. She finished first in her flight and 13th overall in the field of 51.

Among the other jumpers in action on Friday, Maya Gorman PR'd in both high jump (5-1.25) and long jump (18-1.5) while Thaila Wilson recorded a season-best clearance of 5-3.25 in high jump.

On the track, Aji Mbye (24.39) and Olivia Hicks (24.69) started the day with wins in their respective 200m sections. Later on, Lidia Major ran a PR in her first collegiate 400m race posting a time of 56.22 to finish eighth overall. In the 200m invitational, Jada Moore ran a season-best 23.96.
