INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Xiamara Young has been named a qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships in triple jump. The NCAA office announced the list of participants for the national championship meet on Tuesday morning.
The indoor freshman had a career performance at the Mountain West Indoor Championships this past weekend, posting a jump of 13.42m (44-0.5) in her sixth and final attempt of the day. The mark ranks as the tenth best in the country this season.
This will be the second consecutive year an Aztec will participate in triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships and 10th overall in program history. She is just the fifth different Aztec to qualify in the event, joining Hall of Famers Karoline Koehler (2008-10), Shanieka Thomas (2011-14) as well as Decontee Kaye (2009) and Simone Johnson (2023).
This season is Young's first in the Scarlet and Black, transferring after one year at Fresno Pacific. It is also her first collegiate indoor season, only competing during the outdoor season with the Sunbirds.
Totaling four meets this season, the Las Vegas native posted a personal best at each meet ultimately landing at 44-0.5 for her best. The jump ranks fourth best in San Diego State indoor history and won her a silver medal at the MW Championships.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be March 8-9 at the Track at new balance in Boston, Mass. Young will compete on Saturday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m. PT (6:30 p.m. ET).
