SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team returns from a successful trip to the Bay Area to play Loyola Marymount at the Aztec Tennis Center at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 29. Aztecs players will then compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships in La Jolla, Calif., this weekend. The tournament runs from Thursday, February 29 through Sunday, March 3.

San Diego State (7-1) is riding a five-match winning streak including three shutouts. The Aztecs are also undefeated at home, boasting a 5-0 record at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Scarlet and Black have won the doubles point in every match but one in 2024, with the duos of Alexander Mandma/Robin Parts (6-0, court 1) and Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice/Bora Sengul (4-1, court 3) leading the way for SDSU. Parts is also undefeated in singles with a 6-0 record.

Loyola Marymount (4-3) beat UC Irvine on Sunday to bounce back from consecutive shutout losses to Boise State and Denver. The Aztecs fell 5-2 to the Lions last season to drop to 1-5 in the all-time series.

The Pacific Coast Doubles Championships is the second-oldest tennis event in the United States. The Aztecs' Johannes Seeman and Chikaya Sato brought home the title last season by winning seven consecutive matches including five in straight sets. Seeman also advanced to the Round of 16 with partner Victor Castro the season prior. Notable former winners of the tournament include Jack Kramer, Ted Schroeder, Bobby Riggs, Pancho Segura, Don Budge, Tony Trabert, Stan Smith, Bob Lutz, Arthur Ashe, Dennis Ralston and John McEnroe.

Following the tournament, the Aztecs will stay on The Mesa for the remainder of the non-conference season. SDSU hosts Gonzaga on March 11, the San Diego Spring Invitational from March 15-17 and Portland on March 22.
