LAS VEGAS – The San Diego State men's golf team slipped into fifth place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate after 36 holes Monday at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Aztecs, who are 35th in the latest NCAA computer rankings, were tied with No. 15 Oklahoma at 1-under-par 575 on the par-72, 7,510-yard trek before a disqualification changed the scoring for the worse.

Originally at 5-over 293 in Monday's windy second round, junior Jack Townsend (San Diego/Charter School of San Diego) appeared to card a 4-over 76, which counted toward SDSU's team score. Townsend, however, was later disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. Instead, San Diego State officially finished with a 10-over 298 and are tied for fifth out of 15 teams at 4-over 580 for the tournament.

Also in the top five are No. 1 North Carolina (+2), No. 21 Texas (+3) and No. 23 Florida (+3).

Sophomore Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) bolted up 20 spots on the leaderboard with a 2-under 70 today and is tied for sixth out of 75 golfers at -3. Kowack was 1-over through the first eight holes but eagled the par-5 ninth for a second straight day and logged two birdies with just one bogey on the back nine.

Junior Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS)'s even-par 72, meanwhile, was good enough to move up seven places into 10th at 2-under 142. Lague had two birdies and two bogeys in his 72 today.

Sophomore Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) is in a tie for 26th at +2 following a 3-over 75 in today's second round. Chokprajakchat managed two birdies, where were offset by five bogeys.

A day after carding a 2-under 70, junior Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) shot a 9-over 81 today and is tied for 57th at +7.

Missouri's Jack Lundin continues to lead the field at -8 following a 2-under 70 today.

Tuesday's final round starts at 9 a.m. PT.
