ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – San Diego State track and field kicked off the Mountain West Indoor Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The quartet of Vanessa Cabello, Lidia Major, Alex Lomeli, and Jessica Kain broke the school record for the distance medley relay in the team's lone event on the first day of competition.

With a time of 11:49.06, the time surpasses the previous program best by four seconds set at the 2020 conference championships. It is the third different school record for SDSU this indoor season.

Placement-wise the Aztecs finished fifth, scoring four points toward the team standings. It is their best finish since that same 2020 championship meet, where the relay team also placed fifth.

With the record, Cabello and Lomeli have ran in two of the three fastest distance medley relays in program history while Kain has ran a leg in two of the four fastest relays.

The Aztecs will have virtually everyone compete on day two of the conference championships tomorrow beginning with the long jump at 10 a.m. PT (11 a.m. MT) for the field events and 10:30 a.m. PT (11:30 a.m.) on the track with the mile.
