SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team is traveling to the Bay Area this weekend for a pair of road matches at West Coast Conference schools. The Aztecs will take on the San Francisco Dons at noon on Saturday and the Saint Mary's Gaels at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
No. 75-ranked San Diego State (5-1) is riding a three-match winning streak with a combined score of 12-3. The Aztecs opened the season with wins over Brigham Young and Sacramento State. They bounced back from a loss at UC Irvine by beating Idaho, UC Riverside and Point Loma Nazarene. The final two matches were part of a doubleheader on Wednesday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The Scarlet and Black have won the doubles point in every match in 2024, with the duos of Alexander Mandma/Robin Parts (4-0, court 1) and Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice/Bora Sengul (3-0, court 3) starting the season undefeated. Parts is also off to a 4-0 start in singles, playing on each of the bottom three courts.
San Francisco (2-2) has ping-ponged between wins and losses. The Dons beat Sacramento State, lost to UC Irvine, beat Menlo College and lost to No. 18 San Diego. SDSU is 4-0 against the Dons all-time including a 5-2 win last season at the Aztec Tennis Center.
Saint Mary's (1-4) began the season with four straight losses but bounced back with a 7-0 win over Jessup University on February 9. The Aztecs and Gaels have only faced each other twice with SDSU winning 4-0 in 2016 and 6-1 in 2017.
After the conclusion of this weekend's road trip, San Diego State returns to America's Finest City. SDSU will play at the Aztec Tennis Center against another WCC school, Loyola Marymount, on Thursday, February 29. Following that match, San Diego State players will compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships in La Jolla, Calif., from February 29-March 3.
