LIHUE, Hawaii -- Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) tied for fifth out of 122 golfers to pace the San Diego State men's golf team Saturday at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii. Hastings carded a 2-under-par 70 on the par-72, 7,156-yard Ocean Course at Hokuala on the final day of the event and finished at 6-under 210 for the tournament.
 
After opening with a 7-under 65 on Thursday and following with a 75 on Friday, Hastings had five birdies in today's final round, against one bogey and an unfortunate double bogey on the par-3, 17th. Hastings tied with Long Beach State's Clay Seeber, and was just one shot behind California's Kyangyu Chen and Arizona's Zach Pollo, who each tied for third at -7.
 
New Mexico's Bastien Amat captured medalist honors after winning by five strokes over Arizona's Yannick Malik (-8), thanks in part to a final round 8-under 64.
 
Sophomore Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) came in a tie for 36th at 2-over 218 with a 1-over 73 today, sinking four birdies with three bogeys and a double bogey on the par-5, sixth hole.
 
Sophomore Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) tied for 58th at 6-over 222 with a 75 today, junior Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) tied for 75th (+9) and senior Jackson Moss (San Diego/Point Loma HS) tied for 93rd at +13.
 
The Aztecs finished 12th overall in the 20-team field at +8. Arizona won the team title at -20, while California (-17), New Mexico (-10), Grand Canyon (-7) and Texas A&M (-3) rounded out the top 5.
 
SDSU next plays in the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas from Feb. 25-27.
