Aztecs in Eighth Through 36 Holes in Hawaii

LIHUE, Hawaii -- The San Diego State men's golf team slipped two spots into eighth place after two rounds of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Friday in Lihue, Hawaii.
 
After firing a 6-under-par 282 on Thursday on the par-72, 7,156-yard Ocean Course at Hokuala, the Aztecs carded a 7-over 295 in Friday's second round and are in solo eighth out of 20 teams at 1-over 577. Arizona leads the way at -9, while Grand Canyon (-7), Long Beach State (-6), Utah (-5), New Mexico (-3) and Texas A&M (-3) are also under par through 36 holes. California is a stroke ahead of SDSU at even-par.
 
Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) is in a five-way tie for seventh in the 122-man field at 4-under 140. After opening with a 7-under 65 on Thursday, Hastings shot a 75 today with three birdies, an eagle on the par-5, fourth hole, two bogeys and three double bogeys.
 
Sophomore Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) is tied for 31st at 1-over 145, equaling Hastings with a 75 today. Kowack, who entered the weekend with three consecutive top-10 finishes, had one birdie today and four bogeys.
 
Jackson Moss (San Diego/Point Loma HS) and sophomore Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) are each tied for 57th at +3, while junior Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) is tied for 63rd at +4. Moss had SDSU's lowest score of the day with a 72, coming up with an eagle, five birdies, three bogeys and two double bogeys. Chokprajakchat carded a 74 with four birdies, two bogeys and an unfortunate quadruple bogey on the par-4, 18th, and Lague had his second straight 74 with five birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey.
 
Fresno State's Joseph Lloyd leads at -8, while Utah's Sergio Jimenez and Georgia Southern's Hayden Carner are tied for second at -7.
 
Saturday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. HT (10:30 a.m. PT).
