SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State softball team plays host to the 33rd annual Campbell/Cartier Classic this weekend at SDSU Softball Stadium.

The Aztecs, who went 2-2 at the loaded San Diego State Season Kickoff last weekend and then beat San Diego, 8-2, at USD Softball Complex on Wednesday night, will once again host a competitive tournament this weekend.

All four teams - SDSU, No. 17/14 Oregon, rv/No. 25 Texas A&M and LMU - in this weekend's classic made the NCAA tournament a year ago with both San Diego State and Oregon making the NCAA Super Regionals.

The Aztecs (3-2) will meet Texas A&M (3 p.m. PT) and LMU (5:30 p.m. PT) on Friday, Texas A&M (3 p.m. PT) and Oregon (5:30 p.m. PT) on Saturday, and LMU again at 12:30 p.m. PT Sunday.

Macey Keester leads SDSU with a .500 average (7-for-14) through five games, while Katie Goldberg (.385, 3 RBI, 3 R), Mac Barbara (.357, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 2 R) and Micaela Macario (.308, 5 R, 3 SB) are also hitting over .300 for San Diego State (min. 5 at-bats).

The pitching quartet of Allie Light (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 12.1 IP), Cece Cellura (1-0, 2.33 ERA, 9.0 IP), Cassidy West (0-1, 2.47 ERA, 5.2 IP) and Dee Dee Hernandez (1-1, 2.62 ERA, 8.0 IP) have combined for a 1.60 ERA this season in 36 innings.

The Campbell/Cartier Classic is an annual event held in the memory of former Aztec softball players Susanne Campbell and Karin Cartier. Campbell and Cartier lost their lives during the 1991 softball season in a single-car accident that took place in Rosarito, Mexico. It left a lasting mark on teammates, coaches and the program.

To pay tribute to Susanne Campbell and Karin Cartier, the San Diego State softball team renamed the SDSU Spring Classic in 1994 to the Campbell/Cartier Classic in memory of their friendship and fine athletic ability. The 2024 tournament will be the 33rd annual classic.
