WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- The San Diego State men's golf team carded a 7-under-par 277 to move into solo sixth place after two rounds at the Southwestern Invitational Tuesday on the par-71, 6,800-yard North Ranch Country Club. The Aztecs, who are 34th in the latest NCAA computer rankings, are at 6-under 562 through 36 holes.

SDSU's 277 was the third lowest in the 13-team field on Tuesday, and is just four shots behind leader Ohio State (-10), the 27th-ranked team in the computer rankings. No. 21 Texas Tech, Colorado and UNLV are all tied for second at -8, while No. 31 UCLA rounds out the top 5 at -7.

Sophomore Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) vaulted into the top 5 following a 4-under 67 in Tuesday's second round. Kowack logged four birdies in his bogey-free 67 and is now in a tie for fifth in the 75-man field at -6 with Ohio State's Neal Shipley and UCLA's Luke Powell.

Sophomore Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) matched Kowack with a bogey-free 67 and moved up 13 places into a tie for 12th at -4 for the tournament.

Townsend was at 1-under through 13 holes in today's second round but went bogey-bogey-birdie-bogey-bogey to finish with a tough 73.

Senior Jackson Moss (San Diego/Point Loma HS) bounced back from a 2-over 73 on Monday with a 1-under 70 today and is in a tie for 28th at +1. Moss sank four birdies, which offset three bogeys.
